Road Runner (Trike Wheelchair)

Photo Dec 18 2025, 12 08 01 PM_edited.jp

Road Runner is a trike wheelchair made with 1" diameter PVC. Therefore, it is only suitable for people under 150 lbs (this is a guess). Heavier people should use 1.25" or 1.5" diameter PVC.

Road Runner has a 5" caster wheel in the front and 26" x 2" baldy tires on 559 rims for the rear wheels. This is the configuration I like to use for road races. The frame weighs about 15 lbs not including the rear wheels.

Without the stability provided by two front casters, Road Runner is more difficult to transfer into due to the potential for lateral tipping. For the same reason, it is also less stable when in use to the forward 45 degree angle.

For road races, I use an elastic motorcycle kidney belt which is attached to the aluminum backrest plate for additional trunk stability.
