Ply Guy Active Wheelchair

Ply Guy is my easiest to make and least expensive prototype to date. If necessary, it can be made of scrap plywood and a 2"x4" stud. Or you can buy cabinent grade 1/2" plywood and a cedar 2"x4x6' as I did. Unlike, the Disruptor, Ply Guy uses cheap roofing screws. No (expensive) long screws needed. It also doesn't require (4) 5" bolts to attach the camber tube to the frame which saves money.

The seatpan and backrest can be made of 1/2" plywood. To make it lighter, you can use 1/4" plywood. The thinner plywood is likely to break at some point, but it is inexpensive and simple to replace.

Ply Guy uses an "Open Frame" geometry. Generally speaking,  I think a "Closed (box) Frame" is stronger. But I feel that Ply Guy's frame construction is strong enough for typical use. Using thicker plywood and reinforcing the joints with metal brackets would increase its strength. My philosphy is that if something breaks I will fix it (which is easy and cheap to do). If the plywood cracks while I am out and about, a little strong tape will likely solve the problem till I get home.

The rectangular camber tube is screwed to the frame. Therefore, it can be move forward or rearward as needed to adjust the COG. It is also possible to lower the camber tube (raise the seat height) with a slight modification to the design.
